Acupuncture Treatment

What is Acupuncture?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, ill health is seen as a state of disharmony in our body’s energy system (or qi). When we are in this state of lowered immunity, our energy is either deficient (i.e not strong enough) or obstructed. Acupuncture works to strengthen the deficiency of energy or unblock the obstructions by accessing the qi of the organs of the body, and rebalancing them. This is done via energetic meridians which run through the organs themselves. Acupuncture also improves the flow of blood and energy to an area, hence its success in the treatment of pain and injuries.

What benefits can be expected from Acupuncture?

Besides feeling relief from the symptoms that treatment was sought for, one can also expect to feel deeply relaxed during treatment. Most people also report an improvement in energy levels and overall well being, as well as enhanced immunity, after only a few sessions.

What can Acupuncture treat?

What conditions can Acupuncture treat?

Acupuncture is most well known for treating pain, both acute and chronic, but it is successful in treating many other conditions, too. These include fertility and menstrual problems, headaches and migraines, arthritis, skin disorders, insomnia, anxiety and depression, recurrent colds and sinusitis, asthma and allergies, digestive complaints, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and more.

How many Acupuncture sessions will I need?

This depends very much on what the condition is, how chronic the condition is and how long it has been experienced for. Your acupuncturist will discuss expected possible outcomes with you at your first consultation. In general, acute conditions require 3-5 sessions and chronic conditions between 6-10 sessions. A second course is sometimes required for chronic problems and a maintenance programme may also be implemented after a course of treatment.
