Adam Pavitt - Hypnotherapist

Adam Pavitt - Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist

Adam Pavitt has a unique background that helps him to understand the burdens imposed on people by the incessant demands of 21st century life.

He began working in the challenging and constantly changing IT industry in 1996.  By 2009 he was the owner of a thriving IT company providing support to small firms in Sydney and NSW.  2009 was the year that Adam decided to sell his business and devote himself to a new career that would allow him to realise his ambition of helping people get the best out of themselves in every possible way.
Adam considered in depth the varied skills and capabilities he had gained as a successful businessman before deciding on travelling to the UK to study Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy at the UK College of Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy, an institution noted for its strict evidence-based approach to professional training.

Where do you come from/ where did you grow up?
I grew up in Bromley, a town in southeast England.  I studied Computer Studies and then went onto enjoy a successful career in IT, initially in London but then in other European countries, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and the USA before settling in Australia.

What were your interests while growing up?
I was a keen Scout; I undertook many camping and hiking trips around the UK and Europe.  I also enjoyed canoeing, swimming and athletics.

How would you define optimal health and lifestyle/what is your philosophy?
Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH) brings together Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and clinical hypnosis.
Cognitive therapy focuses on our thoughts about our experiences, how we view the world and how we believe the world views us. Behavioural therapy focuses on how our behaviours affect our cognitions (thoughts) and how these affect our behaviours – and the changes we can make to achieve our goals.
Clinical hypnotherapy brings belief and imagination together, in a single dominant idea, in order to help to us to achieve our desired changes.
CBT and hypnosis each enjoy the support of a strong evidence base proving their effectiveness.  Together they offer deep, effective, rapid and lasting treatment.

What do you try to achieve with your clients/patients?
My goal is to have satisfied and happy clients!  I focus on achieving this by building an excellent rapport with them. I believe that anything my clients want (provided that it is within their control) is attainable.

What do you specialise in / focus on?
My specialism is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy.  This enables me to tailor everything to meeting the needs of my client and achieving their goals. Many people describe their problems in a general or non-specific way and because of this they are unable to gain a clear idea about a possible solution.  CBH provides the essential focus that allows the client to see the problem – and thus its solution – clearly.

What makes you different from other practitioners in your field?
Who I am makes me different from others in this field. I chose to study in the UK because the Dip.CBH is not available in Australia.
I work with clients who have unsuccessfully tried other therapies and other therapists.  Therapy of any modality is a very personal thing; clients must feel that the therapist understands both them and their situation.  I believe that if you, as a client, have not resolved your problem then you have not yet found the right therapy or therapist for you.
My business experience has given me a great appreciation of how complex life can be.  I know that Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy can help people deal effectively with many different situations and help them to improve their performance.

What are your interests now?
I enjoy sport.  I actively participate in yoga.  I am a keen photographer and I enjoy reading widely on various aspects of physiology and philosophy.

What are your proudest achievements/career highlights?
My proudest moments include working with clients and seeing the signs of their stress leaving them, seeing their eyes light up as they realise their problem has disappeared.
The greatest of these moments was when I was able to use hypnotherapy to help my mother.
