Interview with Alison Linn
Where do you come from/ where did you grow up?
I come from England and grew up in the West Midlands.
Horses , horses , horses What got you into the health industry?
I knew by the time I was sixteen that I wanted to be an Osteopath. It fitted all that I was looking for- self employment, health related occupation and in a ‘biological’ field.
How would you define optimal health and lifestyle/what is your philosophy?
Optimal health is pretty hard to achieve and maintain, just ask any athlete who is dedicated to seeking this and this alone. It is a balance of mental health, job satisfaction, being able to categorise and manage your life experiences, fitness, family support, friendships and self care. When you make the effort to invest in your lifestyle with exercise, health care treatments, holidays and an appropriate diet then one is on a good path for realistic and achievable optimal health.
What do you try to achieve with your clients/patients?
To help patients better understand their condition from a 360 degree view. To look at what is realistic for that person and concentrate on that. I focus on ‘detective work ‘ so that I can assess for each patient the path that lead them to this point and what can be done to prevent the improved and treated body going back into the same environment that provoked it.
Qualifications/Education

What makes you different from other practitioners in your field?
My copious note taking.
What makes you an expert?
I have been an Osteopath for 23 years and an Acupuncturist for 11 years. These skills, coupled with my life experiences, have moulded my expertise. I am aware of the limitations of both osteopathy and my skills and I do not hesitate to refer to another appropriate practitioner. I have lectured on and off since the late eighties and that helped mould by perspective and expertise. I also attend many courses and lectures and my CPD is always much higher than required by law.
What are your interests now?
I have no horse, yet! I am a keen yoga practitioner and enjoy hanging out with my kids.
Anything else that may be good to share with the world?
Having good health for any period of time can be an elusive target but ensuring you have reasonable, achievable targets for both home and work will help you feel more able to manage pain and conditions as they arise.
