Interview with Laina Collings
Where do you come from/ where did you grow up?
I was born and raised in the northern suburbs of Sydney.
What were your interests growing up?
I was very interested sports and geology. My hobbies included collecting rocks from around Australia, dance, water/snow skiing, bush walking and basketball.
What got you into the health industry?
I have always had an interest in the human body and how it functions. The main reason I have become involved in chiropractic is my love of working with different people, helping them to manage not only pain but to help restore health, wellness and vitality.
How would you define optimal health and lifestyle/what is your philosophy?
Health is not only "freedom from disease", it includes life's physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and intellectual aspects as well. Optimal health is when your body is working to its fullest potential. I believe that optimal health and overall wellness is achieved with the combination of regular chiropractic care, exercise, good nutrition and positive thinking.
What do you try to achieve with your clients/patients?
As a friend and advisor I provide my patients with the tools to enable them to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing. I would like all my patients to know there is no such thing as normal aches and pains – there is no reason anyone has to live with neck/back pain or headaches/migraines. Everyone can achieve better health and decreased pain levels through correction of the nervous system and spine through chiropractic.
What do you specialise in/ Focus on?
I specialise in upper back/shoulder pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines.
Qualifications/Education:
Bachelor of Chiropractic Science (Macquarie University Sydney)
Master of Chiropractic (Macquarie University Sydney)
Industry Association Member:
Chiropractic Association of Australia (CAA)
What makes you different from other practitioners in your field?
I take a vested interest and really care about the progress of my patients. My goal is to help my clients achieve and maintain their health goals. I am passionate about applying latest research techniques in my practice to ensure my patients receive the most up-to-date care.
What makes you an expert?
My ability to tailor make an individual health program for every client. Everybody is different so they need to be treated differently. I have completed extra studies in varied chiropractic techniques including Applied kinesiology, Activator and Sacro Occipital Technique. These are light force techniques used for sensitive spines or those who prefer a more gentle adjustment.
What are your interests now/ are you married/ do you have children?
Right now I am focused on learning and growing as a chiropractor. Other special interests lie in promoting optimum function of the neuromuscular system through attitude, exercise, lifestyle and posture. Marriage and children are somewhere in the future.
What are your proudest achievements/career highlights?
I am never more proud then when I see a client achieve their health goals through chiropractic. Working for 18 months under the guidance of a brilliant mentor in a high volume clinic in Brisbane, allowed me to achieve all my career goals I had set after graduating. This massive learning curve has helped me grow as a chiropractor and as a person. After setting my new goals, I look forward to achieving them back home here in Sydney.
Anything else that may be good to share with the world?
The highlight of my life so far was achieving a lifelong goal of backpacking around the world. This life changing experience has added many more dimensions to my outlook on life and given me a well rounded perspective on people, their cultures and way of life. This gave me overwhelming personal growth and a very different view on life.
