Interview with Stewart Hayes.

Where do you come from/ where did you grow up?

Eastern Suburbs / South Sydney Districts

What were your interests growing up?

Pretty much rugby league and that’s all

What got you into the health industry?

I was always a healthy, very sporty kid with an interest in science, so they kind of merged into a career.

How would you define optimal health and lifestyle/what is your philosophy?

Eat well, be positive and enjoy life, your work should finance your life, not be it.

What do you try to achieve with your clients/patients?

I want my patients to leave knowing their problem, the cause and all possible treatment options.

What do you specialise in/ Focus on?

Gait analysis, footwear modification and working with other health practitioners. I treat a lot of 1st MTP joint (big toe) conditions as well as Tibialis Posterior problems. I do not believe in rigid orthotics, or that everyone needs orthotics.

Qualifications/Education:

Diploma Health Science, Institute Technology, Ultimo, Sydney 1995.

What makes you different from other practitioners in your field?

I use Semi-flexible non rigid orthotics. Not everyone needs orthotics. Most of all, I’m very passionate about my work and my life.

What are your proudest achievements/career highlights?

My patient, Jo Blake won the 2009, 246km Coast to Kosciuszko ultra marathon, 22 days after being fitted with his custom made orthotics.  Each year, I am the consulting podiatrist to the Australian Open Golf when it is held in Sydney

Anything else that may be good to share with the world?

Worry about the things you can control and not the things you can’t.
